A remake of the classic SNES action RPG Secret of Mana is on its way to Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and Steam, in full, colorful 3D! An early teaser trailer has been released, giving us a glimpse at the new features, including all-new 3D graphics, voice acting, and an updated soundtrack. The new look shown in the trailer bears a resemblance to Adventures of Mana, the 2016 remake of the first game in the Seiken Densetsu series, Final Fantasy Adventure. Secret of Mana has been slated for worldwide release on February 15, 2018.
In the meantime, enjoy the teaser trailer below.

Kinda looks a bit like a cleaner version of the Adventures of Mana remake for mobile. Not great, graphically, but man, give me a Secret of Mana with hit detection that isn’t completely borked and I am so on board. PS4 version, and there had better be online multiplayer! |

Looks like Square Enix is getting some extra mileage out of those Adventures of Mana resources. And they seem to be the only major developer that still supports the Vita! I’m certainly on board for that version when it comes out. My only worry is it looks like that special 16-bit charm brought on by the wonderful sprites and art style of the original might not be entirely retained in the transition to the new look, but I’m optimistic some form of it will find its way across in new ways.
Between this, the Adventures of Mana remake, and the finally-about-to-release Star Fox 2, can I be blamed if I start my hype train for a Seiken Densetsu 3 localization? Eh? What do you say SE? |

Secret of Mana is one of those games that you hear referred to in gaming circles as being an all-time classic so I’m definitely going to play it once my Super Nintendo Classic arrives. I also love that this remake is being released on Vita and, knowing how good Vita attach-rates are, I’m sure it’ll sell fantastically on that system. Who knows – if I enjoy the SNES version as much as I expect to then perhaps I’ll pick up the remake on Vita so I can play it on the go! |
