It’s finally here: the 2017 Game of the Year as decided by your Rather Be Playing hosts! First off, we owe you all a round of drinks for coming in so late with this. We meant to put it up two weeks ago, but life happened and now it’s been nearly a month since the last episode. So to make it up we’re making this episode an unnumbered special, and we’re going to hit you with episode 17 exactly one week from today and then episode 18 one week after that! That’s three weeks in a row for your usually biweekly show. Isn’t that nuts? How is it even possible? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll let you know once we’re out on the other side of it. And that’s not all! Act now and we’ll throw in a free Stevo bobblehead! Not really, but now I kinda want one.

Back to the topic at hand! To say 2017 was a great year for games is a massive understatement. You’d even have a strong case for saying it was the greatest year ever. So how the hell do you decide which one of these jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, genre-defining games is the best one? With a 1.5 hour podcast episode! It’s a long one, but there’s a lot to go over to get to our goal. We pick apart the games that made the deepest impressions on us across several categories including music, visuals, and gameplay. We also talk about our biggest disappointments of the year and our personal favorite game we played that didn’t necessarily release this year. Remember, we were supposed to be playing backlogs, right? Whoops! Anyway! Sit back, relax, and let’s relive the insanely rich output we were inundated with over the last 12 months.

Also Josh got us all bananas.
